New headteachers for Five Acres and Henley Bank high schools
Simon Phelps has been appointed as the Headteacher of Five Acres High School, in the Forest of Dean, with immediate effect and Stephen Derry has been appointed to be the Headteacher of Henley Bank High School in Gloucester from 1 September 2020.
Mr Phelps and Mr Derry have been dedicated members of staff at Five Acres for a number of years, including as Deputy Headteachers and most recently as Acting Headteachers.
Mr Nash, the current Headteacher at Henley Bank High School, will be leaving at the end of this academic year to be with his family on the south coast. Over the summer term, Mr Derry will work closely with Mr Nash to ensure a smooth transition in preparation for the start of the new academic year.
Mike Cooper, Chair of Governors of Five Acres High School, said: “The Board of Trustees and Local Governing Body moved swiftly to get a new Headteacher in post to lead Five Acres on its continuing journey of improvement, which has become even more significant in the exceptional and challenging circumstances we all find ourselves in due to COVID-19. I have every confidence that under Mr Phelps’ leadership the school will continue to improve and provide the best opportunities for all our students.”
Lloyd Warren, Chair of Governors of Henley Bank High School, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Mr Derry to Henley Bank. The Greenshaw Learning Trust nurtures outstanding leaders in its schools and Mr Derry has been doing an excellent job as Acting Headteacher at Five Acres. He has the skills and qualities to enable Henley Bank to continue to provide our students with a better chance of success.”
