Governors and trustees

Strong governance is key to the success of our schools, to provide strategic leadership, oversight of financial and academic performance and to challenge and support the headteacher and senior leadership team.

Each school in the Trust is led by its own leadership team and local governing body, who have the backing of the Trust to help them achieve their objectives for their school. Strong governance is key to the success of our schools, to provide strategic leadership, oversight of financial and academic performance and to challenge and support the headteacher and senior leadership team.

As a school governor you can make a real impact on a school’s success, supporting children and young people in your local community; applying your knowledge and skills to ensure the school does the best for all its pupils; and learning more about aspects of education you find interesting and gaining experience that can positively impact on other parts of your life. No particular qualifications are required and support and training is provided.

If you are over 18 years of age, and are willing and able to give time and energy to the role, you could be just the person we are looking for.

You can download a leaflet about becoming a governor here.

If you are interested in becoming a governor at one of our schools please read the following and the documents referred to.

The Guide for prospective governors gives a brief introduction to the Trust and outlines the role and sets out the key ‘expectations’ on and responsibilities of a school governor.

The Code of Conduct, referred to in the Requirements sets out the standards of behaviour required of governors.

All governors are required to abide by the declaration of interests policy and to declare any relevant interests that may affect their role.

The Trust is required to maintain a register of declarations of interests for Trustees and governors, and to publish any ‘relevant’ business and pecuniary interests. It is preferable to ‘over-declare’ - if in doubt, declare it; only interests that are deemed ‘relevant’ to the work of the Trust are published, other declarations remain confidential.

The Trust is required by the DfE to collect and maintain certain information about its governors and trustees- this information is kept confidential unless indicated otherwise on the application form.

If there are any specific vacancies for governors that we are seeking to fill at this time, please see the current vacancies page.

If you wish to be considered for a position as a governor at any Trust school, please complete the application form and declaration of interests form and return them to Julie Adams, Head of Clerking,  jadams@greenshawlearningtrust.co.uk
