Meet the Members

The Members of the Trust established the academy trust. They form the highest level of the governance of the trust, acting as the ‘guardians’ of the trust and having an overview of its governance arrangements.

  • Manny Botwe

    Manny Botwe – Headteacher, Tytherington School, Macclesfield

    Emmanuel Botwe was born, raised and educated in Thornton Heath in Croydon. He
    attended a comprehensive school and then went to Corpus Christi College, Oxford where he
    read Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE). Prior to joining Tytherington School,
    Emmanuel was Deputy Headteacher for Raising Standards in a semi-rural school in South
    Oxfordshire. He started his career teaching History and Politics in an inner-city
    comprehensive in East Oxford.

    He has been Headteacher at Tytherington School for just over four years. His leadership
    was described as “inspirational and dynamic” in their most recent Ofsted inspection.
    His outside interests include Arsenal Football club and charity work. He lives with his wife
    and two daughters in Poynton, Cheshire.

  • Brian Lightman

    Brian Lightman was General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders from September 2010 - January 2016. Brian is acknowledged as an authority on the English and Welsh education systems. His broad experience spanning 38 years has included 2 headships, extensive representation on UK and Welsh Assembly Government committees, being an external examiner and an Estyn inspector. Now self-employed he has a wide ranging portfolio which includes working with individual and groups of schools,  providing coaching and training for middle and senior leaders, professional development and support for school improvement.

  • Matthew Syed

    Writer - author of Bounce and Black Box Thinking; Times newspaper columnist; trustee of Greenhouse Sports, a charity that empowers young people from disadvantaged communities through sport; former international table tennis champion.

    Advocate of the ‘growth mindset’ principles of the power of practice and learning from mistakes.

  • Jeremy Turner

    Jeremy is the Executive Principal and CEO of the Bushey St James Multi Academy Trust, and a former Headteacher with 20 years’ experience of working in a diverse range of secondary schools in London and Hertfordshire.

  • Sue Winspear

    Auditor General for the Cayman Islands; former executive leader for local government, health and education at the National Audit Office; member of Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy; former school governor.
