Phoenix Learning Alliance proposes to join the Greenshaw Learning Trust

The Board of Trustees is proposing that the five schools that form PLA should join the Trust.

The Board of Trustees for the Phoenix Learning Trust (PLA) has been carefully considering the Trust’s future and evaluating its options and has concluded that the best way forward is to become part of a larger multi-academy trust. The Board of Trustees is proposing that the five schools that form PLA: Hunts Grove Primary Academy, Moat Primary Academy, Robinswood Primary Academy, Waterwells Primary Academy, and Grange Primary Academy, should join the Greenshaw Learning Trust.

The Greenshaw Learning Trust is a successful multi-academy trust of primary and secondary schools and is well-established locally, being responsible for Gloucester Academy, Henley Bank High School and Holmleigh Park High School in Gloucester, Five Acres High School in the Forest of Dean, and Yate Academy, Tyndale Primary School and Woodlands Primary School in South Gloucestershire. Widden Primary School in Gloucester is on track to join GLT from September 2023. The Trust has a strong track record of school improvement and has similar values to PLA. The Trust understands the community that the PLA schools serve and the strengths and needs of their pupils, and has the skills and experience that will help the schools ensure they continue to provide the best start in life for all of their pupils.

Kim Hoodless, Phoenix Learning Alliance CEO, said: "Phoenix Trustees welcome the additional opportunities presented to our young people by being part of a larger trust. We are particularly excited by the Greenshaw vision for Gloucester city as a whole, and we look forward to playing a key role in helping achieve this vision."

Will Smith, CEO of the Greenshaw Learning Trust, commented: “We are delighted that the Phoenix Learning Alliance would like to join our family of schools. As part of the Greenshaw Learning Trust, PLA schools will benefit from and contribute to a close collaboration of like-minded schools and high-quality support services, while retaining their character and place in the local community. We look forward to working with all the schools and helping to improve the life chances of their young people.”

As part of the Greenshaw Learning Trust, Hunts Grove Primary Academy, Moat Primary Academy, Robinswood Primary Academy, Waterwells Primary Academy,  and Grange Primary Academy will maintain their ethos and place at the heart of their local communities, whilst benefiting from the quality support services and efficiencies gained by being part of a larger multi academy trust.

Subject to the necessary agreements being reached between Phoenix Learning Alliance, the Greenshaw Learning Trust and the Department for Education, it is expected that Hunts Grove Primary Academy, Moat Primary Academy, Robinswood Primary Academy, Waterwells Primary Academy, and Grange Primary Academy will join the Greenshaw Learning Trust on 1 November.
