Sutton Council to decide on planning application for proposed Sutton new schools

The planning application is due to be decided at a meeting of Sutton Council’s Planning Committee on 10 September 2019.

Sutton Council is considering the planning application submitted by Wates for the proposed new secondary school and special school building on the disused all weather pitch and part of the southern end of the Sports Village at Rosehill Recreation Ground.

The Wates Group construction company was appointed by the Department for Education as the design and build contractors for the proposed new schools at Rosehill. Wates published its initial plans for the new school building in March, and hosted public consultation events on 3 April and 2 July. In response to issues raised by residents and Sutton Council, Wates amended its proposals and submitted a full planning application to Sutton Council.

The planning application is due to be decided at a meeting of Sutton Council’s Planning Committee on 10 September 2019, that will take place at Holy Family Church Hall, Sorrento Road, Sutton, SM1 1QU, starting at 7.30pm. If necessary, the meeting will continue on 11 September, same place and time.

You can find out more about the meeting on Sutton Council website here.

The latest data shows that additional secondary school places are required in September 2020, so Sutton Council is developing plans to enable the secondary school to open in a temporary location in central Sutton.

If planning permission is granted by Sutton Council in autumn 2019, this will allow the secondary school to open in temporary accommodation in September 2020 and then move to Rosehill in January 2022, when the new special school would also be able to open.
